Port Overview

Rizhao Port is an important coastal port emphasized by China, an important hub for the Belt and Road and an oriental bridgehead of the New Euro-Asian Continental Bridge. Started since 1982 and put into operation in 1986, this port realized a cargo throughout of more than 0.1 billion tons in 2006 and completed a throughout up to 0.35 billion tons in 2016, ranking the ninth among nationwide coastal ports and 12th throughout the world. Up to now, it has possessed two port areas including Shijiu Port Area and Lanshan Port Area, 58 production-based berths and a yearly throughout capacity of more than 0.3 billion tons.

With prominent port area advantages, Rizhao Port, which is located in the center of China’s coastline, at the South Wing of Shandong Peninsula and the combining position between the economic cycle along the Pacific Ocean and the economic zone of the New Euro-Asian Continental Bridge and at the junction of “the Belt and Road”, it faces Korea and Japan across the Yellow River, has an important strategic status in the layout of the productivity in China, global energy and raw material transport pattern and is an important sea gate to the western region of China, countries in the Central Asia and West Asia as well as China-Russia-Mongolia Economic Corridor.

By right of unique conditions, wide and deep bay of the port area, wide land region, moderate climate, no freezing and silt, where nearly 200 large (200,000~400,000 T) deep-water berths are established suitably, Rizhao Port is rare natural deepwater port. It has been navigated with more than 100 countries and regions based on broad and wide economic hinterland, vigorous shipment demands, efficient and convenient transportation and sea routes to internal ports. Rizhao port can reach onshore countries in Central Asia and West Asia, Rotterdam of Holland via Xinxiang-Rizhao Railway, Lanzhou-Lianyungang Railway, Alataw Pass and Khorgos Port in Sinkiang, pass through Ganqimaodu Port and reach Mongolia via Wari Railway; this port is directly connected with three highways (Rizhao - Lankao Highway, Shenyang-Haikou Highway and Weifang-Rizhao Highway) and four national trunks to arrive in all places of China. Five oil pipelines, namely Rizhao- Jiangsu Yizheng Pipeline, Rizhao-Dongming Pipeline, Lanzhou – Juxian County Pipeline under planning, Rizhao- Jingbo Pipeline and Rizhao-Henan Luoyang Pipeline, have a yearly oil transport capacity of 0.1 billion tons and are directly connected to crude oil docks and petrochemical enterprises. The port docks are connected with enterprises near Rizhao Port by conveyer, and the longest tubular iron ore belt conveyer in Asia is available in Lanshan Port Area. Currently, Rizhao Port has formed a comprehensive transport pattern, integrating many transport modes, such as shipping, railway, highway, pipeline, belt conveyer and so on, with massive inlet and outlet and convenient transport.

Established in May 2003, Rizhao Port Group has nearly 9000 regular employees and 49 subsidiaries and affiliates, covering fields such as port business, logistics service, building and manufacturing, finance and commercial trade, etc, with total assets of more than 55 billion Yuan. Since establishment of this group, the yearly average cargo throughout has increased by 20.39%, with a yearly throughout up to 350 million tons in 2016, of which the import volume of iron ores and the throughout of wood chips and soybeans and other cargos rank the first among coastal ports. Rizhao Port Group has been successively titled with the National Civilized Unit, National Quality Award, Shandong Provincial Quality Award, etc.
